I never did anything like that when I was a kid. My main occupation was sewing clothes for my dolls. But then my brother was much more destructive (although never with living creatures).
I wonder how my friends who have children (namely Zoya and Denya) feel when they read articles like that. That child must be bad? He/she must have bad parents? He/she didn’t really understand the ramifications of what they were doing?

Generally I don't read articles like that, but if I did I would think that it's a very complex issue which involves both kids and parents, and the society that produce them. No one grows in isolation, no one is only parented/taught by their parents. There are many influences.
BTW I don't subscribe to the idea that children are cruel by their nature, there are plenty of examples of kids being kind, considerate and thoughtful - but that wouldn't make very interesting news story
I don't really remember being kind and considerate when I was a kid. I just remember being really selfish. But maybe that's just me.
